“Seeing the world with your own eyes is a thousand times better than any dream"- Ray Bradbury
Dare to dream, dare to make your dreams come true. That's what we want for you. We've created the Majik Mushing Training Camp to give you access to the Scandinavian dream with your own dogs.
We're located in Sörbygden, in the county of Jämtland, between Östersund and Sundsvall. This is southern Lapland. We're almost in the center of Sweden!
To reach us without your dogs, you can fly to Stockholm or Östersund. From Stockholm-Arlanda, the cheapest option is to take the train from Arlanda airport to Sundsvall. Once there, we'll pick you up directly from the airport or train station and take you to us.
If you're traveling with more than 2 dogs, overland transport becomes the only option for reaching Sweden.
We recommend a well-ventilated trailer or truck, with comfortable, secure cages for your dogs. It's best to put one dog per cage, and to take breaks every 6 hours to allow them to hydrate. Avoid letting dogs run loose in the vehicle.
Although studded tires are not mandatory, they are highly recommended, as tar is rare on many roads. However, suitable snow tires and careful driving may suffice, especially from mid-March onwards.
To travel in Sweden, each dog must have a European passport, be vaccinated against rabies and present a certificate of good health issued by a veterinarian. If you are transporting more than 6 dogs, you should also contact your local DDSV to obtain the TRACES file, required for transporting animals across Europe.
Ferry or bridge?
Whether in terms of time or cost, there's not much difference between taking the ferry or crossing the bridges to Sweden.
Here are the three main ferry lines available for your journey:
- Kiel (departure around 6 p.m.) - Goteborg (arrival around 9 a.m.) with Stena Line. A tried and tested experience!
- Rostock (departure around 7pm) - Nynashamn (arrival around 1pm) with Hansa Destinations. Also tried and tested, including with horses! Please note: this route is temporarily suspended due to rising fuel prices.
- Rostock - Trelleborg (3 departures daily) with Stena Line or TT Lines.
The main advantage of these ferries is the comfort they offer both driver and animals: private cabins with beds and showers, as well as areas for relaxation (bars, restaurants and stores). What's more, the company schedules regular visits for the dogs every 6 hours. These companies are used to transporting vehicles with animals on board, so there's nothing to worry about.
When booking, you don't need to mention the presence of dogs (unless you want your dog in your cabin). Once you've booked your ticket, contact the company directly by email to inform them that you're traveling with sled dogs. You'll be assigned a special seat (especially for journeys of over 7 hours), and you'll be able to take your dog with you.
